CASE STUDY: Health Education Programs, HIV/AIDS Prevention Unit, Los Angeles Unified School District
Evaluation of Multiple Program Components/ 2004-present

We're helping a large organization evaluate vital health education programs and services.

The mission of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Unit at the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is to improve the quality of HIV/AIDS instruction within the district by providing a range of services such as professional development for teachers, facilitating speaker’s bureaus, and providing parent education, in addition to providing a number of resources for health education teachers. Dr. Montoya has been working with the HIV/AIDS Prevention Unit of the LAUSD since 2004 (Sentient Research has provided these services since 2007). We have provided a range of program evaluation services over the years, including grant development support, designing and implementing satisfaction surveys for teacher conferences, analyzing data, and preparing written and oral reports. In addition, we developed and validated a district-wide health education assessment for all high school students in the District. To date, our work with the LAUSD HIV/AIDS Prevention Unit has resulted in over 4,000 teacher surveys collected and we have managed and analyzed multiple databases to produce reports required by the District and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
